Abstract:

In the 19th century, a lot of tourists travelled in the Turkish territory for various purposes, one of them was Edwin John Davis. The traveler, a British citizen, serves as a psychopath in the English school and military union in Alexandria. During this mission, in 1875 he visited part of the Mediterranean and Inner Anatolian region of Turkey. He has a lot of information about the places he has visited. Often he tries to transmit his observations as he is, but sometimes he remains in the twist in his assessments and cannot get rid of it from the orientalistic point of view. While giving information about the Circles he sees on the road, he indicates that during his journey he stayed in the tents where the Circles are located rather than in the villages, and as a result, he also shows cleaning, hospitality and human relationships. In the journey he came out, when he returned from Karaman to Mersin, after Ibrala, he was a guest in Karakuyu Yaylası, the information he gave about Mr. Mustafa Tekerlek during the period includes important data in terms of the conflicts between the administrators and the circles as well as the socio-economic aspects of the circles living in that place. Again, the Lord of the Circle, where he lives, finds important assessments about the role the Circles play.
