Abstract:

The aim of the study is to adapt the Social Worker’s Attitudes toward Disability Scale developed by Cheatham et al. (2015) into Turkish. While there are studies that measure the general attitudes towards the disabled or examine the attitudes of different professionals, there is no measurement tool that measures the attitudes of social workers towards the disabled, one of the disadvantaged groups they frequently encounter in the field of practice. Data were collected from three different samples for the validity and reliability analysis of the Social Worker’s Attitudes toward Disability Scale. First of all, 449 social workers were reached for Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis and internal consistency coefficients. Then, 59 social workers were reached for the criterion validity. Finally, the scale was carried out to 59 social workers with four week interval for the invariance of the scale against time. As a result of the study, the Social Worker’s Attitudes toward Disability Scale, which consists of 20 items and four sub-dimensions called "Professional Attitude", "Personal Competence", "Equality" and "Professional Satisfaction", was adapted.
