Öz: Bu makale Hicâz’ın üç önemli şehrinden biri olan Tâif ’in İslâm öncesi siyasî, iktisadî, içtimaî ve dinî hayatı hakkında bilgiler vermeyi hedeflemektedir. Tâif, coğrafi konumu, ziraî üretimi, ticarî mevkii ve önemli yolların kesişme noktasında bulunmasından dolayı stratejik açıdan önemli bir yerdeydi ve Haremeyn’e açılan doğu kapısı özelliğine sahipti. Hicâz bölgesinde sıcak çöl hükümlerinin geçerli olduğu Tâif, kış aylarının en sert yaşandığı bir şehir olmasına rağmen yaz mevsimindeki mutedil havasından dolayı Mekke eşrafının ilgi ve itibarına mazhar olmuş; günümüze kadar sayfiye yeri olma özelliğini sürdürmüştür.
