Abstract:

Social sciences, which constitute the core structure of the social studies curriculum, are experiencing many theoretical, conceptual and methodological changes under the influence of digitalization and digital transformation. This situation affects the social studies curriculum, which plays an active role in providing students with the knowledge, skills and values of social sciences. When the social studies curriculum (2018) is examined, it has been determined that the knowledge, skills and values required by the digital age are partially included in the curriculum. It is possible to say that the achievements in the curriculum are mainly aimed at technological product-based knowledge and skills. This situation shows that the newly produced knowledge in social sciences, skills and values required by the digital age are not sufficiently reflected in the curriculum. This research aims to determine the knowledge, skills and values required by the digital age and to reflect them in the social studies curriculum. In this research, which was based on a descriptive-based qualitative research model, firstly, the changes and transformations that occurred in social sciences with the effect of digitalization and digital transformation were identified. The research data collected based on document analysis consist of 8261 academic studies published in the context of digitalization and digital transformation in the field of social sciences between 2018-2020. Academic studies obtained from the Web of Science and DergiPark databases were analyzed by bibliometric analysis method. As a result of the analyses, a conceptual structure was created regarding the subject areas emerging with digitalization and digital transformation in social sciences. By accepting this conceptual structure as the basic framework, achievement, concept, skill and value associations were made at each grade level for the digital age requirements in the social studies curriculum. Thus, it is thought that progress will be made in reaching the quality of the social studies curriculum that can respond to the demands of the digital age.
