Abstract:

About the importance of dreams many ḥadīth were narrated from the Prophet Mohammed and in one of them it was stated that the dream was a part of the prophecy. One of the ḥadīths reported from the Prophet about dreams is that a believer’s dream will never turn out to be a lie in the iqtirāb al-zamān (approach of time). In the comments made about the ḥadīth, it was stated that attention was drawn to a certain period and various opinions were put forward on which period that period was. In the research, first of all, in order to reveal the authenticity of the ḥadīth text, the ḥadīth has been criticized in terms of the isnād and its authenticity has been examined. Then, the text-centered interpretation analysis of the ḥadīth was made and the differences between the similar narrations of the ḥadīth text were revealed. In the course of the article, the definition, nature and types of dreams are also discussed. In the study, the opinions of ḥadīth commentators about the concept of approach of time were mentioned and it was analyzed which points were pointed out with this concept. In this context, it has been seen that approach of time can have four different meanings: the end of time, the equality of day and night, the period of Mahdī, and the period of old age. Finally, the study analyses and evaluates why the Prophet brought up the dream of the believer living in iqtirāb al-zamān.
