Abstract:

This study aims to examine the intangible cultural heritage elements in primary school Turkish textbooks. Within this purpose, this study utilised from document analysis method. Within the framework of the determined method, the intangible cultural heritage elements in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list and the National Inventories of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism were taken into account as criteria for collecting research data. According to the findings of the research, when the distribution of intangible cultural heritage elements in Turkish textbooks is examined, it has been determined that the most frequently discussed elements are the tradition of telling tales (52), which functions as a tool for transferring intangible cultural heritage through language, and holiday traditions (national and religious holidays) (48), which are in the field of social practices. From the point of view the results of the research, it has been figured out that a total of 647 elements were included in primary school Turkish textbooks and intangible cultural heritage elements were mostly included in the third grade textbook. It has been determined that intangible cultural heritage elements were less common in the Science and Technology theme. It has been observed that the Karagöz play in the field of performing arts was the least included item.
