Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to determine the priority criteria for the selection of suppliers based on sustainability criteria in a textile enterprise and to select the best supplier according to these criteria. Method - Sustainability criteria determined on the basis of literature and expert opinions are emphasized by making bilateral comparisons according to the analytical hierarchy process method. The sustainability performance of the suppliers of a ready-made clothing company operating in the textile industry has been assessed according to these criteria. Results - Economic criteria (0,792) were ranked first in the sustainable supplier selection criteria in the ready-made clothing business assessed under the study and followed by social criteria (0,131) and environmental criteria (0,076) respectively. This result shows that the profitability of a business is more important than social and environmental elements. Under all three criteria, the supplier is selected as the best supplier within the scope of sustainability. The supply chain managers of ready-made clothing companies operating in the textile industry may use this research model when determining the criteria they take into account in the selection of sustainability-based suppliers and the suppliers they prefer within the framework of these criteria. The future research on this issue can be made more comprehensive by the inclusion of different criteria on sustainability in countries with different levels of development and operating in different sectors.
