Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of concept cartoons method on the success of 6th grade students in Social studies lessons. This study is designed as pretestposttest control group experiental model. Sixth grade students from Selçuk primary school in centre of Niğde have been attended to the research in 2009-2010 academic year spring semester. While subject group was tought thorugh concept cartoons methods, control group was tought through coherent existing program. The achievement test has been applied to the students before and after the programme as pretest-posttest. T-test has been applied to analyse the data. According to the result of posttest which is applied to both subject and control groups at the first half end of the teaching period: the student in subject group are more successful than control group students. This results shows that concept cartoons based teaching is more effective than the traditional methods are only programme based teaching
