Abstract:

Muslim scholars had discussed the power of reason and its limits in the respect of religion during the history. One of the main discussion points whether the reason is that a factor which close to salvation as ability that differentiates between false and true, good and bad. The other one is how much the reason could perceive the ultimate reality that basis of whole existence. The final question is where the border line between revelation and reason is. One of the main characteristics which separate human being from other living creatures is reason as to distinguish between right and wrong, and the mental power. The reason had been fairly discussed according to its definition, content and variants in Islamic thought. Nonetheless, reason had been studied considering its relation with narration, nass, revelation and religion. In this article, it will be dealt with reason that is accepted the one of the fundamental problems, over against the narration in Islamic thought. Firstly, the opinions of Islamic philosophers and Kalaam scholars will be narrated. Then, it will be tried to find out Quranic doctrine on that subject.
