Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a difference in the motivations of high school students who are involved in some branches of school sports in terms of some variables. The research is a quantitative study from survey models. The sample group of the research consists of a total of 150 students (Average: 16,053±1,211), 96 male and 54 female, studying at high schools affiliated to the Karaman Provincial Directorate of National Education. In order to determine the motivation levels of the participants participating in the research, Gill et al. (1983) and Oyar et al. (2001), the validity and reliability study of the "Sport Participation Motivation Scale" was used. Since the data did not show normal distribution, Kruskal Wallis-H test and Mann Whitney-U test, which are non-parametric tests, were used. According to the results of the research, the general average of the participants' motivation to participate in sports, the achievement, physical fitness, team spirit, friend, entertainment, competition, skill development and being active score which are the sub-dimensions of the scale are above the medium level, and the high school athletes' gender, branch, class, grade level are the independent variables. There was a significant difference in terms of the variables of difficulty in spending time and spending time, and there was no significant difference in terms of age and time spent in active sports.
