Abstract:

Towards the end of the first half of the 16th century, coffee, and at the beginning of the 17th century, tobacco began to take place in the Ottoman society, causing serious changes in the habits of the people in social life. The consumption of these two consumption items by means of unique items has led to the emergence of new forms in the art of ceramics. Cups and bowls began to be used in coffee and tobacco consumption, and they became widespread in many regions of Anatolia, especially in the late 19th century. In the use of cups, it is understood that a large number of imports are made from China and Europe, as well as important production centers such as Kütahya. It is also known that some European porcelain factories even made special productions for the Ottoman geography. In this study, the Ottoman Period’s pipes and porcelains cups imported from Europe found during the excavations in Kahta Yeni Kale at various times and which are in Adıyaman Museum today were evaluated. Evaluation of Ottoman period finds in a medieval castle located in the southeast of the country within today's borders will support both the detection of Ottoman traces in the region, the habits and social life of the people in this period, and the clues about the relations in the commercial life of the country.
