Abstract:

This study examined the relationship between adolescent’s excellence levels of self-presentation and social appearance concerns and self-respect. The study also aims to find out whether perfectionist self-presentation differs or not according to gender and school type (private/governmental) variables. The study’s work group consists of 527 high school students studying in the high schools located in the central districts of Konya in 2020-2021. The study used "Excellent Self Presentation Scale in Children and Adults", "Social Apparently Anxiety Scale", "Rosenberg Self Respect Scale-Short Form" and "Personal Information Form". To identify the relationship between the variables in data analysis, the Pearson Moment Relationship Correlation Scorecard has been used for the Multiple Regression Analysis and the Demographic Information of the Related Variables to identify the relating relations between the relevant variables. The research finds that the relationship between perfectionist self-presentation and social appearance anxiety is at a positive level; the relationship between perfectionist self-presentation and self-respect is at a negative level. Social appearance anxiety and self-respect has been shown to be a perfect self-presentation. The disguise of the error of the perfectionist self-presentation has resulted in the fact that the sub-dimensional students who study in the public school significantly differ from those who study in the private school, but the other sub-dimensions do not differ according to the type of school. It has been shown that the three subdimensions of the perfectionist self presentation do not differ according to gender.
