Dini ritüeller her din ve kültürde görülen fenomenlerdir. Bundan dolayı dini ritüeller dinlerin vazgeçilmezleridir. Her dinin kendine özgü ritüelleri vardır. Hiçbir din olmasın ki, varlığını ritüelsiz devam ettirebilsin. Dini ritüellerin kaynağı, öncelikle kutsal metinler, daha sonra dinin kurucu babaları, din adamları ve o dine inanan birey ve toplumların sahip olduğu kültürdür. Hristiyan ritüellerin kaynağı, Yahudilik ve İslam’da olduğu gibi kutsal metinlerden ziyade, tarihi süreç içerisinde Hristiyan dinin kurucusu İsa’dan sonra onun hayatındaki önemli olayları anmaya yönelik ritüeldir. Hristiyanlıkta başlangıçta İsa’nın hayatındaki çok önemli bir iki olayı anmaya yönelik olarak başlatılan ritüeller sonraki yüzyıllarda gittikçe artarak İsa’nın hayatındaki hemen hemen her olayı kapsar hale gelmiştir. Böylece günümüz Hristiyan kilisesinde İsa’yla ilgili yapılan ritüeller kademeli olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. Biz bu makalemizde öncelikle “ayak yıkama” ritüelinin tarihsel izdüşümü hakkında bir araştırma yapacağız. Bu ritüelin Hıristiyan dini kaynaklarına ne zaman ve nasıl girdiği ve tarihi süreç içerisinde kiliselerde nasıl değişimlere uğradığı konusu çalışmamızın ana temasını oluşturacaktır. “ayak yıkama” ritüeli eski toplumlarda bir gelenek ve görenek iken, daha sonra Hristiyan din adamları tarafından kutsal metinlere sokuşturulmuş bir ritüel midir? Yoksa bu ritüel Hıristiyan dini metinlerine mi dayandırılmaktadır.
Religious rituals are phenomena seen in every religion and culture. Therefore, religious rituals are unnecessary to the religions. Each religion has its own rituals. There is no religion that you can continue your existence without a ritual. The source of religious rituals is the culture that first of all the sacred texts, then the founding fathers of the religion, religious men and individuals and communities who believe in that religion possess. The source of Christian rituals, rather than sacred texts, as in Judaism and Islam, is a ritual aimed at reminding the important events in his life after the founder of the Christian religion after Jesus. The rituals initially launched in Christianity to remind one or two of the very important events in the life of Jesus have increased in the following centuries and have become covering almost every event in the life of Jesus. Thus, the rituals made about Jesus in today’s Christian church have gradually appeared. In this article, we will first do a research on the historic discovery of the "foot washing" ritual. When and how this ritual entered the Christian religious sources and how the changes occurred in the churches during the historic process will be the main topic of our study. Is the "foot washing" ritual a tradition and tradition in ancient communities, while a ritual that was later introduced to the sacred texts by Christian religious men? Otherwise, this ritual is based on Christian religious texts.
