Abstract:

Tekirdag Province and its vicinity have always attracted people’s attention from past to present and have been an important area preferred for settling. The population of Tekirdag Province, which has wide and fertile agricultural areas, has increased in time, and certain changes were experienced in land cover/land usage. In the study, which was carried out to determine and analyze the changes occurring in land usage, Landsat 5, 7, and 8 satellite images belonging to 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020 were analyzed via controlled classification method. While 15,976.68 hectares of the study area, which is 17,874.11 hectares in total, was made up of agricultural areas in 1990, this number decreased to 14,061.09 in 2020. On the other hand, residential areas, which covered 1,085.95 hectares in 1990, went up to 3,508.56 hectares in 2020. In this increase of residential areas, not only the areas gained from agricultural areas, but also areas gained from pastures and water surfaces have been effective. Although the reflections of this change on space were first observed in the south of the province, it spread towards the north in time, and residential areas were distributed to the whole study area.
