Abstract:

Today, with the development of technology, remote detection data obtained from satellites and computer-based programs and image processing techniques are being identified for existing land uses. In this scope, the Behram Village, which is a protected area connected to the Çanakkale or Ayvacık district, and its nearby surroundings have been selected as a research area. The study used satellite images of 16 August 2005 Landsat 5 TM and 23 August 2019 Landsat 8 OLI to detect land use and changes in land cover. These images are processed in ARCGIS and ERDAS software. During the image processing phase, the processes of image enrichment, geometric and radiometric correction, controlled classification, the creation and interpretation of the exchange matrix have been carried out. The time changes that occur in this field of natural and cultural importance are divided into 8 classes using image processing techniques and controlled classification method. These are areas covered with plant cover, naked areas, settlements, beach/shore areas, agricultural areas, water surfaces, historic areas and olive plants. The study found that between 2005 and 2019 there was an increase of approximately 5 per cent in the settlement areas in general, but there was a reduction of approximately 8 per cent in the areas covered by plants and olive plants.
