Günümüzde sosyal bilimlerin metotlarından yararlanarak hadîsleri anlama ve yorumlama çabasının mahiyeti tartısılmaktadır. Artık “sosyal bilimlerden yararlanılmalı mıdır?” seklindeki bir soruya cevap aramak zaman kaybıdır. Bunun yerine “sosyal bilimlerden nasıl yararlanmalıyız?” seklindeki sorunun cevabı aranmalıdır. Bir yandan bu tartısmalar devam ederken bir yandan da pratik çalısmalar yapılmaktadır. Bu çalısmalardan biri de Mehmet Görmez’in doktora tezi olarak hazırladıgı “Sünnet ve Hadisin Anlasılması ve Yorumlanmasında Metodoloji Sorunu” (Ankara, 1997) adlı eserdir. Eserin temel amacı çagdas Anlambilim ve Yorumbilimin metotlarını hadîslere uygulamaktır. Eserin bu anlamda hadîs çalısmalarına katkısı son derece açıktır. Ancak eser bilgilerin degerlendirilmesi açısından elestiriye açıktır. ste bu çalısma da eserde ortaya konulan bilgi ve yaklasımları degerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır.
