Abstract:

Financial literacy is important for individuals to direct their financial lives with the financial skills they need to acquire from an early age. The aim of this study is to examine the financial literacy association contents of secondary school mathematics textbooks approved by the Talim Terbiye Kurulu according to grade level. Document analysis technique was used in the study. In the analysis of the data, PISA financial literacy content dimension and PISA mathematical literacy dimension were discussed. Content analysis of the data was made, percentage and frequency values were determined. In order to ensure the validity and reliability of the research, three mathematics educators who had training in association and financial literacy in mathematics education coded the data, the codes were examined by the researchers, the differences were re-evaluated, and a full consensus was achieved in the final situation. The results of the research, questions about financial literacy in the books; Between 2% and 6% of all questions, the "Numbers and Operations" learning area is mostly concentrated in the "Percentages" sub-learning area, the "Financial Planning" area according to the PISA content dimension, and it is mostly seen at the second and third level of PISA mathematical literacy levels. It is suggested that the questions in the books that are in the financial context and do not contain financial literacy should be made to support financial literacy. Thus, it is thought that the place of financial literacy in mathematics education will become more evident.
