Abstract:

Collaboration of different disciplines in correct art education has become important towards the end of the 20th century. In the present study, the applications of Christo-Jeanne Claude couple, who are regarded as the representatives of three-dimensional applications in the global art of textile which are used as a technical material by many artists in art especially after 1960, have been considered. When the applications of the couple, who are the pioneers of the 20th century land art, are scrutinized; different dimensions of nature-textile and architecture-sculpture interaction have been revealed. Today, studies are conducted in many countries on the improvement of environmental quality, rising general aesthetic acclaim and liking of the sites that they are situated in. Art activity in landscaping, in addition to the formation of site image and environmental identity, has critical importance in the said quality searches due to motivating human behavior within the environment and creating an aesthetic in visual integrity. The artists who are engaged in environmental art applications target that everyone is an art viewer. All environmental and public art samples illustrate that the viewers are obligated to be art consumers whether they want it or not. The applications of Christo-Jeanne Claude couple, who use textile material in land art, make up the universe of the study. Ten applications of the couple’s hundreds of designs and applications of small and large dimension that use textile as a technical material in three-dimensional designs that are considered that they are known globally and effective in visual sense in terms of environmental design applications were considered in a chronological ranking. The plastic examination of the applications was carried out along with the matter of why and how textile products are used in three-dimensional designs and applications by the couple.
