Abstract:

When we look at the history of the Roman Empire, we see the increasing social, economic and political crises during the Severus era. The 3rd century crises that occur after the Severus Period are also a sign of this situation. The "Severus Women's Portraits of the Period" which forms the subject of the article, has been attempted to determine the impact of the confusion in the empire on the portrait style and the characteristics of the style resulting from it. Severus Period has been attempted to identify the characteristic characteristics that can be used in the identification of the style of female portraits and the portraits of their important characters. In the article, the women (imparatoricians) and portraits that appear and are known in the period of the Severus are defined in a chronological order. After Augustus, civil portraits were evaluated. In the Severus Women Portraits, which constitutes the subject of the article, the effects of the confusion experienced in the empire on the portrait style and the characteristics of the style that were created as a result were tried to be determined. In addition, Severus style of female portraits and characteristic features that can be used in identification of portraits of important personalities are tried to be determined. In the article, the most prominent and known women (empresses) and their portrait samples of Severus Period are described in chronological order. Civilian portraits are evaluated after the Augustas.
