Abstract:

Purpose: In this study, the health program of students studying at the Kapadokya Professional High School is aimed at determining their knowledge and attitudes on antibiotic use and bacterial resistance. Method: Our work is an identifiable and cutting-edge type of work. The universe of research has been created by students studying in health programs in the 2019-2020 academic year. Students who accepted to participate in the study and filled the survey form (n=350) were taken sample. Forms are sent to participants in electronic forms. The findings: 53.1 percent of respondents (n=186) admitted that antibiotics accelerated getting rid of the cold. 75.7% of participants (n=265) realized that they could play a role in fighting bacterial resistance. The most important source requested to obtain information about antibiotics was the doctors/services with 68% (n=238). 91.7% of participants (n=321) that the country’s population used antibiotics unnecessarily and 83.4% (n=292) claimed that the treatment should be completed. While there was no meaningful relationship between the knowledge levels of the participants and their gender, a statistically meaningful relationship between the education levels and the knowledge levels was found. Result: The study found that students had a medium level of knowledge about antibiotic use and bacterial resistance. It may be recommended that students organize awareness campaigns so that they can have sufficient knowledge about antibiotic use and bacterial resistance, to provide training on the subject and to further study on the subject.
