Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the attitudes of teachers candidates towards the Syrians in terms of multiculturality and heterogeneity. The study 2018-2019 educational-learning year consists of a total of 375 students, including 258 girls, 217 men, who study at three state universities in Turkey (Hacettepe University, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University and Trabzon University) in the spring semester. The research data, the form of personal information prepared by the researcher, the scale of attitude towards the Syrians, the scale of multiculturality and the scale of diversity were used. Data analysis used Pearson correlation, independent sampling t test, one-factor variance analysis and multiple regression test. The negative attitude towards the Syrians and the high level of negativity and the negative attitude towards the Syrians and the high level of multiculturalism and the positive level of inter-culturalism and the positive level of inter-culturalism. The negative attitude towards the Syrians from the demographic variables does not show a statistically significant difference from gender to gender. There has been a statistically significant difference between the negative attitudes of those who have at least one Syrian friend and those who do not have a negative attitude towards the Syrians. In comparison with the other settlements in the major cities (the city center, the district center, the village), the result was that their negative attitudes towards the Syrians were less and statistically significant differences were found.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the attitudes of teacher candidates towards Syrian migrants in terms of multiculturalism and altruism. Research 2018-2019 academic year at university, studying in three states (Hacettepe University, Recep Tayyip Erdogan University and Trabzon University) in Turkey consists of 258 girls and 217 boys. Research data, personal information form prepared by the researcher, attitude scale towards Syrians, multicultural scale and altruism scale were used. Pearson correlation, independent sample t test, one-factor analysis of variance and multiple regression tests were used for data analysis. A negative high level relationship was found between negative attitude towards Syrians and altruism. A negative high level relationship was found between negative attitude towards Syrians and multiculturalism attitude. A mid-level positive relationship was found between altruism and multiculturalism. The negative attitudes towards Syrians do not show a statistically significant difference according to gender. Those who have at least one Syrian friend have a significantly lower negative attitude towards Syrians than those who have no friends at all. It was concluded that the negative attitudes towards the Syrians were less than the other settlements living in the metropolitan cities and a statistically significant difference was found.
