Abstract:

Antik çağlardan günümüze kadar varlığını sürdüren önemli yapılardan birisi olan deniz fenerleri, deniz ticaretinin gelişmesindeki en önemli basamaklardan birisini oluşturmuştur. Hem karaya hem de denize ait olan fenerler, barış dönemlerinde gemilere kılavuzluk yaparak ticaretin devamlılığını sağlamıştır. Böylelikle limanların, şehirlerin ve şehir ekonomisiyle birlikte devlet hazinesinin de gelişmesini sağlayacak bir kanal oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışmada Osmanlı Devleti’nde Deniz Fenerleri İdaresi’nin kuruluşu, fener rüsûmu ve ekonomiye katkısı ile Bodrum ve İstanköy’de bulunan deniz fenerleri, buralarda görev yapan fener gardiyanları ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca fenerler hakkında yapılan şikayetler ve barış zamanlarında gemilere kılavuzluk yapan deniz fenerlerinin savaş dönemlerindeki söndürülerek düşman gemi ve uçaklarına karşı stratejik durumları incelenmiştir.

Abstract:

Lighthouses, one of the most important structures that have survived from ancient times to the present, have constituted one of the most important steps in the development of maritime trade. The lighthouses belonging to both land and sea ensured the continuity of trade by guiding the ships in times of peace. Thus, it created a channel for the development of ports, cities and the state treasury together with the city economy. In this study, the establishment of the Lighthouse Administration in the Ottoman Empire, the lighthouse tax and its contribution to the economy, the lighthouses in Bodrum and Kos, and the lighthouse guards working there are discussed. In addition, the complaints made about the lighthouses and the strategic situation of the lighthouses, which guided the ships in times of peace, against enemy ships and aircraft by extinguishing them in times of war were examined.
