Abstract:

Humans have been intertwined with animals from the earliest times to the present day. With the disease of animals, people went to treatment in line with the possibilities and lifestyles at hand. This created the public veterinarian. The folk veterinarian, which has survived and preserved until today, contains rich folklore elements. The aim of this study is to reveal the folk veterinary practice in Parçikan village of Arguvan District of Malatya. The main reason for determining the Parçikan village as a study area is the intense animal husbandry in the region. In this study, which was prepared within the framework of the ethnographic design, 45 people from the Parçikan village people, who were engaged in animal husbandry and were engaged in animal husbandry in the past, were determined as the working group. In the study, data were collected through interviews. Before the interview, the literature on animal diseases was searched. The obtained data were analyzed with descriptive analysis. According to the analyzed data, herbal, animal and mineral products in the treatment of animal diseases in the region; surgical methods and religious practices are used. As a result of the study, the hearth culture, one of the ritual elements of the Turkish people, was also encountered in the treatment of animal diseases in the region, and in this context, the reasons for the emergence of some diseases of the local people and how they were treated were determined. As a result, rich folkloric elements have been reached in the folk veterinary in the region. At the end of the study, various suggestions were made about animal diseases.
