Bu çalışma ile ergenlerin sosyal medyaya yönelik tutumları ile benlik saygısı arasındaki ilişkinin çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Araştırma ilişkisel tarama modelindedir. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını 2019-2020 eğitim öğretim yılında Ankara İlinde M.E.B’ye bağlı devlet ve özel ortaokulların 7. ve 8. sınıflarında öğrenim gören 13-14 yaş arası 207 öğrenci (108’i kız ve 99’u erkek) oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak “Genel Bilgi Formu” ile “Sosyal Medya Tutum Ölçeği” ve “Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada öğrencilerin benlik saygılarının yüksek ve sosyal medyaya yönelik tutumlarının olumlu olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğrencilerin benlik saygısı arttıkça sosyal medya tutumuna yönelik sosyal izolasyon düzeyinin azaldığı, öte yandan öğrencilerin sosyal izolasyon düzeyi azaldıkça sosyal medya tutumunun olumlu yönde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırmaya katılan kız öğrencilerin paylaşım ihtiyacı düzeylerinin erkek öğrencilere göre fazla olduğu ve devlet okulunda öğrenim gören öğrencilerin sosyal izolasyon düzeylerinin özel okulda öğrenim gören öğrencilerden daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. Araştırma bulguları ilgili alanyazın çerçevesinde tartışılarak yorumlanmış ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
The purpose of this research is to assess the relationship between adolescents' attitudes toward social media and self-esteem. The sample of the study consistet of 207 students (108 girls and 99 boys) between ages 13-14 who study in the 7th and 8th grades of public and private secondary schools attached to the M.E.B. in Ankara in the 2019-2020 academic year. The study was designed as Correlational research model. “General Information Form”, “Social Media Attitude Scale”, “Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale” were used as data collection tools. In accordance with the results of the study, it was determined that as the self-esteem of the students increased, the level of social isolation towards social media attitude decreased, and on the other hand, as the level of social isolation of the students decreased, the social media attitude was positive. It has been determined that female students’ level of sharing need is higher than that of male students, and the social isolation level of students studying in public schools is higher than students studying in private schools. The findings were discussed and interpreted within the framework of the relative literature and made suggestions.
