Abstract:

It is aimed to raise innovative individuals who can think critically and creatively and come up with original ideas in line with the rapidly developing technology and changing world needs. The education system aims to raise individuals who can produce new things, not repeat what previous generations did, and develop their thinking by using their minds in a different way. Although it is not possible to achieve this goal with conventional teacher models, only teachers who can think fluent, flexible and original can organize teaching-learning environments and guide the development of creativity. In this context, the aim of the research is to examine the figural creativity of prospective teacher in terms of different variables. The sample of the study consists of a total of 140 teacher candidates studying at a university in the Eastern Black Sea Region. The data of the research were collected using the "Torrance Creative Thinking Test Figural Form-A". SPSS 21.0 package program was used in data analysis and independent t test and Mann Whitney-U test were applied to the data. As a result of the analyses, no significant difference was found between the genders and departments of the prospective teachers in the originality, abstractness of the headings and resistance to early closure scores, which are the sub-dimensions of the formal form, while a significant difference was detected in favor of the prospective primary school teachers in the sub-dimensions of fluency and enrichment. Suggestions were made according to the results obtained.
