Abstract:

In this research, it is aimed to reveal how the case study method can be used to develop the digital citizenship skills of primary school 5th-grade students. The study was conducted in the qualitative research method fitted in the purpose of research. The participants of the research were determined according to the purposive sampling method. The research was conducted with 30 students in the 5th grade of a public school in Istanbul Sancaktepe in the spring term of the 2021-2022 academic year. The research data include pre and post surveys, in-class audio recordings, activity worksheets, student diaries tools. The data were analyzed by the content and descriptive analysis method. By analyzing the data, the practices based on the case study method in general positively affected the development of the digital citizenship skills of primary school 5th-grade students. In this context, by analyzing the classroom communication records and student outputs that emerged during the analysis of the case studies, information about the effects of the case method-based teaching application on the daily life of the internet, how to access accurate and reliable information from the virtual environment, and questioning the reliability of the information obtained from the virtual environment were determined.
