Abstract:

The literature of modern Kyrgyzstan emerged during the first quarter of the 20th century, predominantly influenced by Soviet aesthetics. It is noteworthy that as written literature among the Kyrgyz emerged at a later date, different characteristics came into play in the renewal of literature. Within this context, translation served as a guiding force, providing a space for authors to encounter and assimilate diverse literary perspectives. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the translations undertaken during the initial years of Kyrgyz literature, the individuals involved in the translation process, and the interconnectedness of literature and translation. The study highlighted the importance of translation in literature, specifically focusing on its effectiveness in the revitalization of Kyrgyz literature. Employing document and descriptive analysis methods, the study examined the translations carried out between the specified years, drawing upon library catalogs and various sources for comprehensive scrutiny. As a result, it was found that esteemed figures such as Kasym Tynystanov, Kasymali Bayalinov, Sidik Karachev, and Mukay Elebayev were involved in translation and were aware of the importance of translation in the formation and development of modern Kyrgyz literature. Translation endeavors, which commenced in the 1920s, gained impetus parallel to the literary movement in the 1930s, resulting in the translation of numerous classical works, particularly from Russian and Western literature, into the Kyrgyz language. Furthermore, the translation of select literary masterpieces from various global traditions during the 1930s paved the way for subsequent substantial literary translation.
