İskelet toplumlarında erişkin olmayan bireylerde gözlenen diş ve çene hastalıklarının değerlendirilmesi, bebek ve çocukların sağlık ve beslenme yapısı hakkında önemli bilgiler sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Havuzdere Orta Çağ toplumundaki bebek ve çocukların ağız ve diş sağlığı, beslenme yapısı, genel sağlık yapısı ve yaşam biçimlerinin anlaşılması amacıyla diş ve çene patolojileri incelenmiştir. Çalışmada Havuzdere toplumu bebek ve çocuklarına ait toplam 105 bireyin (89 çocuk ve 16 bebek) 2143 adet dişi (706 süt ve 1437 daimî diş) incelenmiştir. Diş ve çene patolojileri analizleri sonucunda, bebek ve çocuklarda diş çürüğü %9,6, diş aşınması %40,3, diş taşı %12, hipoplazi %30,3, alveol kemik kaybı %3, apse %0,2 ve antemortem diş kaybı %0,1 oranında gözlenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında elde edilen bilgiler, Havuzdere toplumunda bebek ve çocukların erken yaşta anne sütünden kesildiğini, genellikle karbonhidrat ağırlıklı beslendiklerini ve gelişim dönemlerinde çevresel ve fizyolojik strese maruz kaldıklarını göstermektedir.
The study of dental and jaw diseases in non-adults in skeletal populations provides important information about the health and diet of infants and children. In this study, dental pathologies were examined in order to understand the oral and dental health, nutrition, general health structure and lifestyle of infants and children from Havuzdere medieval population. A total of 2143 teeth (706 deciduous and 1437 permanent teeth) of 105 individuals (89 children and 16 infants) belonging to infants and children of Havuzdere population were examined in the study. As a result of the dental and jaw pathology analysis, 9.6% dental caries, 40.3%, tooth wear, 12% dental calculus, 30.3% hypoplasia, 3% alveolar bone loss, 0.2% abscess and 0.1% antemortem tooth loss were recorded in infants and children. The results of the study showed that infants and children in Havuzdere population were weaned at an early age, generally consumed carbohydrate-based nutrition and were exposed to environmental and physiological stress during their developmental periods.
