Abstract:

Being a refugee could lead to have traumatic experiences. It is important to understand that the refugees experience traumas and how they perceived such experiences. Giving meaning to non-existence and traumatic experiences, such as migration, coincides with the theoretical framework of the logotherapy approach. The ability to find and develop meaning despite the challenges is associated with the refugee’s experiences. The aim of this study is to examine the novel of Older Brother written by Mahir Güven within the framework of Viktor Frankl's Existential Analysis, Logotherapy approach and literature regarding migration. The novel was written around the stories of the characters, each of whom was experiencing existential frustration and distress created by the existential vacuum. In the study, the relationship between logotherapy, migration, meaning and existence was discussed based on the characters of the novel. Within the scope of the study, seeking for meaning, existential frustration and vacuum experiences of the main novel characters were described using the concepts of the migration literature. As a result, it has been seen that the concepts of logotherapy were coincide with the inner experiences created by the migration experiences, and the novel of Older Brother is related to many concepts of logotherapy.
