Finansal gelişme ve ekonomik arasındaki nedensellik ilişkisi hakkında literatürde farklı birçok görüş yer almaktadır. Mevcut görüşlerin önemli bir kısmı söz konusu iki kavramın birbiriyle ilişkili olduğunu açıkça ortaya koymaktadır. Fakat, nedenselliğin varlığı ve yönü hakkında farklı hipotezler geliştirilmiştir. Bunlar; arz öncüllü hipotez, talep takipli hipotez, Patrick hipotezi (geri bildirim hipotezi) ve Lucas hipotezi (yansızlık hipotezi)’dir. Bu çalışmada, finansal gelişme ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki nedensellik ilişkisi ve buna bağlı olarak hangi hipotezi desteklediği; 39 Afrika, 34 Asya ve Pasifik, 41 Avrupa, 25 Orta Doğu ve Orta Asya ve 34 Batı Yarımküre ülkelerinin 1995-2020 dönemi verilerinden yararlanılarak panel veri analizi ile test edilmiştir. Finansal gelişmişliği temsilen IMF finansal gelişmişlik endeksi kullanılırken, ekonomik büyüme göstergesi olarak ülkelerin büyüme rakamları kullanılmış ve veriler Dünya Bankası’ndan temin edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular; finansal gelişme ile ekonomik büyüme arasında çift yönlü nedensel ilişki olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu sonuç, söz konusu ülke panelleri ve ele alınan dönem için Patrick hipotezinin geçerliliğini doğrulamaktadır.
There are many different views in the literature on the causality relationship between financial development and economic growth. A significant portion of the existing views clearly show that these two concepts are related. However, different hypotheses, have been developed regarding the existence and direction of causality. These are the supply-led hypothesis, demand-following hypothesis, Patrick hypothesis (feedback hypothesis), and Lucas hypothesis (neutrality hypothesis). In this study, the causality relationship between financial development and economic growth and, accordingly, which hypothesis it supports; has been tested with panel data analysis using data from the 1995-2020 period of 39 Africa, 34 Asia and Pacific, 41 Europe, 25 Middle East, and Central Asia and 34 Western Hemisphere countries. The IMF financial development index was used to represent financial development, While the country’s growth figures were used as an indicator of economic growth, and data were obtained from the World Bank. The findings obtained show that there is a two-way causal relationship between financial development and economic growth. This result confirms the validity of the Patrick hypothesis for the country panels and period in question.
