Abstract:

As one of the problem areas of the social service profession, child abuse is a phenomenon that requires comprehensive investigation and emergency decisions, protective and preventive interventions, treatment and healing, legal intervention. In this process, social workers must have sufficient knowledge and equipment on all these fields to be able to make child-interested decisions. The purpose of this research is to study the level of knowledge of the students of the Department of Social Services of Gümüşhane University on child abuse and neglect. The existing work was performed in accordance with the visual scan model. During the 2018-2019 educational teaching period, 314 students who have continued their studies and volunteered to participate in the study at the Gümüşhane University's Social Service Department have reached. The data of the research is collected in the face-to-face survey method. The study found that students had a lack of knowledge about the subject when they studied the total substance score average and the substance score average obtained from the scale for the signs and risks of child abuse and disobedience and other low scales. Analysis also found that the signs and risks of child abuse and neglect of students did not differ based on gender and income, but that the level of knowledge of students varied significantly based on their age and place of residence. The findings are discussed in the light of the literature.
