Ülkelerin istikrarlı bir şekilde büyüyebilmeleri ve makroekonomik dengeleri koruyabilmeleri açısından cari açığın sürdürülebilirliği önemlidir. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye’de 1987 – 2018 dönemine ait aylık veri setini kullanarak cari açığın sürdürülebilir olup olmadığını araştırmaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda reel ihracat ile reel ithalat arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki, yapısal kırılmaları da dikkate alan Fourier eşbütünleşme testi aracılığıyla araştırılmış ve cari işlemler açığının sürdürülebilir olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Daha sonra cari işlemler açığının güçlü formda mı yoksa zayıf formda mı sürdürülebilir olduğunu ortaya koyabilmek için değişkenlerin uzun dönemdeki katsayıları FMOLS analizi ile tahmin edilmiş ve ithalat değişkeninin katsayısı 0.69 olarak bulunmuştur. Söz konusu bu değer, Türkiye’de yapılan 1$’lık ithalata karşılık 0.69 $’lık ihracat geliri elde edildiğini ve Türkiye’de ihracatın ithalata bağlı olarak gerçekleştiğini ifade ederken cari açığın ise zayıf formda sürdürülebilir olduğunu yani ihracat gelirlerinin ithalat giderlerinin belirli bir kısmını karşıladığını ortaya koymaktadır. Daha sonra ele alınan değişkenler arasında nedensellik sınaması yapılmış ve nedensellik ilişkisi olmadığı görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak, Türkiye’de cari işlemler açığının zayıf formda sürdürülebilir olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Söz konusu bu durum ülke ekonomisi açısından önemli bir problemdir. Bu yüzden cari işlemler açığının güçlü formda sürdürülebilirliğinin sağlanması ülke ekonomisi için büyük önem arz etmektedir.
Sustainability is important for countries to grow stable and maintain macroeconomic balances. The aim of the study in this context is to investigate whether the gap is sustainable in Turkey using the monthly data set for the period 1987 - 2018. For this purpose, the long-term relationship between real exports and real imports has been investigated through the Fourier integration test, which also takes into account structural breakdowns, and the conclusion has been made that the trade gap is sustainable. The long-term ratio of the variables was then predicted by the FMOLS analysis to determine whether the currency gap is in a strong form or in a weak form, and the ratio of the import variable was 0.69. This value indicates that $0.69 export revenues were obtained for $1 import in Turkey and that exports in Turkey are based on imports, while the currency gap is sustainable in a weak form, meaning that export revenues meet a certain portion of import expenses. The variables that were subsequently discussed were tested and there was no causal relationship. As a result, the conclusion has been achieved that the gap in the carriage transactions in Turkey is sustainable in a weak form. This is an important problem for the country’s economy. Therefore, ensuring the sustainability of the trade gap in a strong form is of great importance for the country’s economy.
