Abstract:

Space and different perceptions of space: A study on Halide Edib Adıvar’s autobiography Mor Salkımlı Ev The concept of space is a long-lasting subject of debate. Among these debates, there are different definitions of space and different ways of perceiving the space itself. In this study, the concept of space and its differents perceptions in Halide Edib Adıvar’s autobiographical work Mor Salkımlı Ev are taken into consideration. In addition, spatial stops, belongings, experiences and mobilities are also considered. By taking all these aspects into consideration, author’s perception of space and her way of reflecting her perspective to her works are also questioned. In this study, “ways of perceiving space” consist of four parts. While the first one is spatial stops, the second one is spatial belongings. Also, while the third one is spatial experiences, the last one is spatial mobility. At this point, the concept of space, the meanings of space at hand and the effects of these meanings upon individual’s daily life are taken into account. While taking all these points into account, it might be possible to highlight Halide Edib’s way of perceiving and reflecting the space itself. Halide Edib is a writer, who always lays stress on women’s strenght. Halide Edib is a pro-feminist herself, who has a feminist point of view of life. Halide Edib, who gives importance to woman-man equality in every field of life, is an author with so many articles in most works and magazines. Halide Edib tries to write publicly so as to enlighten women and the society itself. So, it is important to realize Halide Edib’s attributions to feminist studies in the context of women’s rights
