The Relationship Between Sense Of School Belonging and Smartphone Addiction Of High School Students

In addition to the convenience provided to our daily lives, smart phones have an adverse effect on young people due to their excessive and inappropriate use. With this study, the relationship between smart phone addiction and school belonging sense of high school students has been tried to be revealed. Research was carried out in in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey with 375 students studying in four different types of high schools. Data were collected by using face to face questionnaire technique. In the study, two measuring instruments, Smart Phone Addiction Scale and School Belonging Sense Scale, were used. In this research, relational screening method was used. Data were collected by applying face to face questionnaires. As a result of the study, while the students' sense of belonging to the school was moderate, the sense of rejection was found to be high. Male students have higher levels of smartphone addiction than female students. Female students had higher levels of school commitment while their sense of rejection were lower. 9th grade students' smartphone addiction levels are higher than 12th grade students. 11th grade students' smartphone dependency levels are higher than 10th and 12th grades. 9th Grades belonging to school are higher than 10th and 12th grade students. According to the type of school, smartphone addiction levels of science high school students are higher than vocational high school students. There was no significant relationship between smart phone addiction and sense of belonging to school and academic achievement. When the relationship between smartphone addiction and school sense of belonging was examined, no statistically significant relationship was found between them. However, a significant positive correlation was found between smartphone addiction and sub-factors.
