Metafizik’in zeta’sında Aristoteles, ilkin hypokeimenon’un ya “madde” ya “biçim” ya da “madde ve biçimin bileşimi” olabileceğini söylemiş, devamında ise, bu üç unsurdan hangisinin hypokeimenon olabileceğini soruşturmuştur. Bu soruşturma sırasında, hem yalnızca maddenin hypokeimenon olarak değerlendirilebileceğini hem de maddenin hypokeimenon olmasının olanaksız olduğunu ifade etmiş olan Aristoteles, bir paradoksu doğurmuş gibi görünmektedir. Bu nedenle, Aristoteles’in düşüncesinde hypokeimenon’un ne olduğu konusu, Aristoteles uzmanları tarafından tartışılan bir konu haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada ilkin, Aristoteles’in ontolojisinde hypokeimenon’a yönelik soruşturmanın nasıl bir yer tuttuğundan bahsedeceğim. In the Zeta of Metaphysics, Aristotle said that the first hypokeimenon could be either "matter" or "form" or "matter and form composition", and in the subsequent, he investigated which of these three elements could be hypokeimenon. During this investigation, Aristotle, who stated that the substance can only be considered hypokeimenon and that it is impossible for the substance to be hypokeimenon, appears to have given birth to a paradox. Therefore, in Aristotle's thought, the subject of what is hypokeimenon has become a topic discussed by Aristotle's experts. In this study, I’ll first talk about how the investigation of hypocimenon holds a place in Aristotle’s ontology. Then I will give you a summary of how the experts of Aristotle interpreted the subject in general in different contexts and the apories arising from these comments. Finally, in order to distribute the side on that paradox, through the “pos” cover that Aristotle used, I will show that the substance is used in Aristotle, both as “hypokeimenon” and as “non-hypokeimenon”, in more than one sense.
