Abstract:

The word üze, which is used as the adverb of place and the final preposition, has been discussed in historical Turkish dialects. Based on the old Turkish inscriptions in which the word was used in a simple way, the root and additional discussions of the researchers about the word, and the issues of reading and interpretation were briefly addressed. The main subject of this article is the structure of the Turkish word üze and its conjugates, üzeri, üzerine and üzerindin, which appear in yarlık and bitigs of Kirim remaining from the Golden Horde developed under the the Kipchak influence and in Münteyü’l-Guzat, one of the reliqs of the Mamluk Kipchak language. These words, which now appear as a permanent name rather than the adverb of place and the last inflectional preposition, are used in mixed-language works, in the oldest dictionary written in Oghuz Turkish, in the Bahşayiş Dictionary, in Old Anatolian Turkish works and in the first grammar book written in Ottoman Turkish, Müyessiretü'l-Ulûm. It has been tried to contribute to the field by presenting an idea about the structure of this word by taking into account the various opinions put forward on the subject.
