Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to figure out the effects of creative problem solving (CPS) activities on the creativity of children who are 5 years of age. The design of the research was based on sequential exploratory design, which is a kind of mixed method research methodology. According to this design, firstly qualitative and then quantitative data were collected. The data gathering instruments of the first step were interview form for academicians, and interview form for teachers. Inductive analysis was employed to analyze the data obtained through semi-structured interviews. As a result of the analysis, the CPS activities to be applied to five age groups were prepared. In the second step of the experimental study, pre-test and post-test control group design was applied. Data were collected through the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) Figural Forms A&B before and after the experimental process, in which the CPS activities prepared by the researcher were applied. In order to examine whether there is a significant difference between the pretest-posttest creativity total scores 2x2 mixed ANOVA was performed. According to the findings of experimental step, total creativity scores which the experimental and the control groups got from TTCT Figural forms were compared and the experimental group’s post-test total creativity scores were significantly higher than the pre-test scores, namely it is seen that the CPS activities were effective on the experimental group.
