Abstract:

This article aims to reveal thoughts of Ibn Hazm regarding ethics.His main work on ethics was Mudavaat al-Nufuus, which was also known as al-Akhlaaq wa al-Siyar. In this work, Ibn Hazm mentioned life in general and his experiences regarding ethics in particular. According to him, the aim of philosophy is to make a person virtuous by training his soul and make him to gain the happiness of both this and the eternal world. Also the aim of religion is not different from this. In this case, it is understood that religion and philosophy is similar in terms of their moral missions. Ibn Hazm stressed the importance of the moral nature of man. At the same time he described “reasonable man” as “the person who performs what his/her sense of discernment accepts as necessary”. He emphasized on “four virtues of ethics” in detail. By religious approach he stated that the orders of Allah and His Prophet include all virtues. Furthermore, he stated that friendship with good people would contribute to be virtuous. Also, he sometimes mentioned moral advices in his work
