Abstract:

Narcissism as a personality trait has positive and negative reflections on the attitudes and behaviors of those working in organizational life. In this context, the aim of the study is to anayse the effect of narcissistic personality traits on the workaholicism trend seen in working life. The data of the study is attanied from 387 academic staff by utilising Dutch Work Addiction Scale (DUWAS) and Narcissist Personality Inventory (NKE) scale. Explanatory factor analysis, Cronbach Alpha reliability analysis, Confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and Path analysis are used in the statistical evaluation of the data obtained. According to the results of the analysis, it is determined that narcissistic personality traits have significant effects on the workaholim and sub-dimensions of the workaholism, hard work and sense of responsibility. On the other hand, it is determined that the sub-dimensions of narcissistic personality traits, self-confidence and authenticity, have positive effect on sub-dimension of hard work, while the authority sub-dimension has negative effect. It is observed that self-admiration sub-dimension of the narcissistic personality traits has significant positive effect on sub-dimensions of hard work and sense of responsibility.
