Yaratıcı dramanın İngilizce konuşma becerisi ve öğrencilerin İngilizce konuşmaya karşı tutumlarına etkisini araştırmak bu çalışmanın amacıdır. Araştırma öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu deneme modelinde tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Bolu il merkezinde bulunan bir Anadolu Lisesi öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Deney ve kontrol grupları yansız olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırma 10 Mart–2 Mayıs 2008 tarihleri arasında, deney ve kontrol grubunda 24’erden toplam 48 öğrenci üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin İngilizce konuşma seviyeleri ve İngilizce konuşmaya karşı tutumları arasında anlamlı bir farkın olup olmadığını tespit etmek amacıyla her iki gruba ünite öncesi ve sonrasında konuşma sınavı ve tutum ölçeği uygulanmış, ünite süreci ise dört hafta sürmüştür. Elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel yorumlamasında SPSS istatistik programı kullanılmış, temel istatistiksel işlemlerin yanında gruplar arasında anlamlı farklılık olup olmadığını bağımsız örneklem t testi ve eşleştirilmiş gruplar t testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın tümünde anlamlılık düzeyi olarak 0.05 alınmıştır. Uygulama süreci, araştırmacının kendisi tarafından gerçekleştirilmiştir. Uygulama sürecinde kontrol grubu öğrencilerine ders kılavuz kitabında önerilen yöntem ve teknikler uygulanmış, kontrol grubunun aksine deney grubunda ders kılavuz kitabında önerilen aktivitelerin yanı sıra drama uygulamaları yer almıştır. Uygulama ortamı olarak öğrencilerin rahat etmelerini sağlayacak olması bakımından uygulamanın yapıldığı okulun spor salonu kullanılmıştır. Buna karşılık kontrol grubunda ise uygulama alanı olarak sınıf ortamı kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonunda elde edilen verilere göre deney ve kontrol gruplarının sontest başarı puanları ve son tutum puanları açısından deney grubu lehine anlamlı farklılıklar belirlenmiştir. Buna göre drama yönteminin geleneksel yöntemlere göre öğrenci başarısında daha etkili olduğu söylenebilir.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of creative drama on speaking English and students’ attitudes towards speaking English. The study was carried out as an experimental model, with a pre and post test, and control and experimental group. The sample consisted of students from an Anatolian High School in Bolu. The experiment and control groups were determined impartially. In order to determine whether there were any statistically significant differences in the spoken English achievement and students’ attitudes towards speaking English, a speaking test and attitude test were applied before and after the unit. The procedure continued for four weeks. The SPSS statistics program was used in the statistical analysis of the data. In addition to the descriptive statistics, an independent t-test and a paired-samples t-test were applied in order to determine the significant differences between the groups. Throughout the study, the significance level was accepted as 0.05. All the procedures were carried out by the researcher. The advised methods and techniques in the course book were applied by the researcher to the control group. In the experimental group, drama activities were also applied in addition to the methods and techniques recommended. While the procedures of the experimental group were carried out in a spacious area, the classroom environment was used for control group. As a result of the data analysis, some positive significant differences in favour of the experiment group were noted final speaking test and attitude scale. Thus, it can be claimed that drama is more influential than traditional methods on the speaking skills and attitudes toward speaking of the participants in the current study.
