Eğitim-öğretim faaliyetlerinde mihver ders olan Türkçe dersi, değer eğitimi için gerekli olan iletişim sürecini gerçekleştirme, Türkçe kitaplarında yer alan ve Türkçe öğretiminin bir aracı olan metinler bakımından değer eğitimi için gereği ve önemi yadsınamaz bir ders olma özelliği taşımaktadır. Öğretim programları doğrultusunda hazırlanan Türkçe ders kitaplarında değerlere yer verilme durumunu belirlemek, öğrencilere değerlerin kazandırılması için düzenlenecek etkinliklere yön vermek bakımından önemli görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada, 6-8. sınıf Türkçe ders kitaplarında yer alan okuma parçalarının vurguladığı değerler incelenmektedir. Okulun bireyin toplumsallaşmasındaki rolü düşünüldüğünde, toplumsal değerlerin hem yerel hem de evrensel boyutlarının olduğu görülmektedir. Toplumsal yaşamın içinde sorunlara çözüm üreten, kentleşmenin getirdiği yabancılaşma ve ötekileştirme ile soyutlanmamış bir yaşam döngüsü ortak değerlerin içselleştirilmesi ile olanaklıdır. Bu ortak değerlerin oluşmasında okulun ve derslerin büyük bir önemi vardır. Derslerde kullanılan ders kitapları da değer eğitimde kullanılan en stratejik materyallerden biridir. Ders kitaplarının değer eğitimini olanaklı kılacak bir kurguya sahip olması gerekir. Bu bağlamda, Türkçe ders kitaplarının değer eğitimini kılavuzlayacak donanıma sahip olması beklenir. Bu çalışmada, Türkçe ders kitaplarında yer alan okuma parçalarının ortaokul öğrencilerinin bilişsel ve duyuşsal özelliklerine göre değer eğitimine katkı yapıp yapmadığı üzerinde durulmaktadır. Çalışma, ortaokullarda okutulan üç Türkçe ders kitabından seçkisiz örnekleme yoluyla belirlenmiş ikişer tema başlığı altındaki altı metnin analizi ile sınırlıdır.
