Abstract:

Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil, with his a hundred thousand stories, has become a writer highlighted by his novels, although it is one of the important names of modern Turkish history. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the "modern state of being a person" is represented through the "writing action" in Halit Ziya stories, especially how the self-reporter translates the inner world to read using his daily, letters and memoirs, how this translation, how it problematizes the representative and how all of this is separated from the traditional story narrative. In the reviewed stories, some narrative characteristics have a repetitive structure. There are three basic features of this structure: a) Many stories are written using the self-telling in the form of daily letters or memoirs; b) the function of transmitting the other self-telling stories using the frame story is charged throughout these stories; 3) the majority of the "telling" in the story is not completed and missing. These three points revealed in the review is suggested that Halit Ziya's text responds to the transformation of the traditional narrative, the problematisation of narration, writing and representation.
