Bu çalışmanın amacı, akıllı telefonların eğitim-öğretim ortamında kullanılma durumunu ve etkilerini öğretmen ve öğrenci görüşleri temelinde incelemektir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2014-2015 öğretim yılında Aksaray İli şehir merkezinde kasıtlı örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen üç ortaokul ve üç liseden 30 öğretmen ve 30 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden olgu bilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Veriler, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile elde edilmiş ve içerik analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Araştırmada eğitim öğretim ortamlarında akıllı telefonların kullanımına ilişkin hem ortaokul hem de lise öğrencileri olumlu görüş bildirmişlerdir. Bu durum, lise öğretmenleri için de büyük ölçüde geçerli iken ortaokul öğretmenleri kesinlikle olumsuz görüşe sahiptir. Araştırma sonunda akıllı telefonların işlevlerinin gözardı edildiği, bu işlevlerden yararlanmayı sağlayacak teknik alt yapı ve içerik alt yapısının oluşturulması halinde akıllı telefonların eğitim-öğretimi destekleyebileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Akıllı telefonların eğitim-öğretimi destekleyici şekilde nasıl kullanılabileceğine ilişkin öğretmen ve öğrencilerin eğitim ihtiyacı belirlenmiştir.
