Günümüzde küreselleşme karşısında yerel ekonomilerin önemi artmıştır. Yerel ekonomiler küresel ekonomide birer aktör olarak daha fazla yer almaya başlamış; yerel sanayileşme, kurumlar ve organizasyon yapıları önem kazanmıştır. Bu gerçekten hareketle bu çalışmada Tokat’ın ekonomik yapısı ve gelişim süreci TR83 bölge ve ülke ekonomisi ile karşılaştırılmalı olarak analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre Tokat ilinin ekonomik gelişim sürecinde nüfusun önemli bir kısmının istihdam edildiği tarım sektörü, ilin tarımsal potansiyelinin yüksek olmasına rağmen ekonomiye beklenen katkıyı sağlayamadığı görülmüştür. İl hem Gayri Safi Yurtiçi Hasıla (GSYH) hem de diğer sosyo-ekonomik gelişmişlik göstergeleri açısından bölge ve ülke ortalamasının oldukça altında kalmıştır. Bu durum, ilde tarımdan sanayiye dönüşümün yeterince gerçekleşmemiş olmasının bir sonucu olarak değerlendirilebilir.
Today, the importance of local economies has increased in the face of globalization. Local economies have begun to take a greater role as an actor in the global economy; local industrialization, institutions and organizational structures have gained importance. This is really moving in this study that the economic structure and development process of Tokat is analyzed comparatively with the region and country economy of TR83. According to the results of the study, the agricultural sector in which a significant part of the population is employed in the economic development process of the Tokat province has not been able to provide the expected contribution to the economy, despite the high agricultural potential of the province. The province has remained far below the region and country average in terms of both GDP and other socio-economic development indicators. This situation can be regarded as a result of the not sufficient transformation of the province from agriculture to industry.
