So many results that aren't mine?

Abstract:

The present study aims to identify English, German, and French Language Teaching pre-service teachers’ profiles, their self-reported difficulty levels in using language skills and their attitudes towards the foreign language they are trained to teach and its current use in Turkey. Majority of research on attitudes to foreign language learning are conducted on learners rather than teachers and pre-service teachers. Current study takes attitudes research from a different perspective by focusing on the prospective teachers. Data for the study is gathered via a questionnaire composed of three parts. The first part aims to gather demographic information, second part aims to receive participants self-reported opinons on their success, and finally, the last part, which was prepared as a five-point likert type scale, aims to learn about participants’ attitudes towards English language. The reliability of the attitude scale was calculated by using cronbach’s alpha coefficient and found to be reliable with 0.84 alpha value. Data is collected from 440 students in a Foreign Languages Education Department (FLT) of a Turkish University. The data were analyzed through multiple comparisons and with statistical methods such as ttest and ANOVA. According to the reasearch results it was found out that English Language pre-service teachers’ are having less difficulty in language skills when compared to other departments. Moreover, it is also found that all participants developed a relatively positive attitudes towards the foreign language, whereas, English Language Teahing pre-service teachers developed more positive attitudes
