Abstract:

International migration and illegal migration are the most important reflections of migration phenomenon which accepted starting with human history in present day. Illegal migration is seen as a security threat because of changed security perceptions especially after the September 11th. Turkey, due to its geographic location and development with respect to surrounding countries, take over as a target country and trannsit country regarding international migration and illegal migration events. There are many problems recording data and reaching data related to irregular migration as a result of not having tight border precautions as Fronteex by European Union. In this study, basic concepts related to international migration were explained, after that spatial (regional and territorial) distribution of international migration problem in the world. Furthermore, it is mentioned political, socioeconomical, and security problems that caused by migration in related countries. Turkey’s position in international migration problem due to geographical location was also explained. And finally, it was mentioned that Turkey’s lived process and problems between 1923-2013 related to migration as source, transit, and target country. The lack of research about international migration and illegal migration with a broad perspective in geographical studies towards living foreigners in Turkey was a motivation fort his study. The aim of the study was to put forward the migration problems which is international problem presently and Turkey’s position in international migration problem periodically. In this aim, it was searched native and foreign literature study related to the research. It was found that statistically data was taken from formal institutions, publications, and web sites. It was prepared tables and graphics, and tryed to interprete by visualized data. When the subject evaluated in terms of findings, it is hoping that it will be a source for political geography, tourism geography, and the other social studies literature, and it will be give direction related to the opinios.
