Abstract:

Tawhid (oneness of God) is a type of verse that often discussed along with the adoption of Islam firstly in Arabic and Persian Literature and later Turkish literature. Following to the Tanzimat, new poets who have been effected European poetry particularly French poetry have taken an interest in this kind of poems. In spite of western sides of Cenab Sahabeddin and Tevfik Fikret who have a great contribution to the formation of Servet Funun Literature and Modern Turkish Poetry gave successful pieces in kind of tawhid as well. Fikret’s tawhids have been penned during his pupilage in Mekteb-i Sultanî and then seeing that have not taken up his poetry books have stayed in the periodical of that era. Cenab’s tawhids have been written after Servet-i Funûn. These tawhids also shows the intellectual evolution of these poets as well. While Fikret have been changed from faith to faithless, Cenab feel the need of sanctuary to morale and mysticism with the seeking of consolation in consequence of disappointments. Their experiences, their surroundings and time has been influencial in this changing. Although tawhids of both Cenab and Fikret seem an example of classical and traditional literature. They have an important richness in Turkish poem as they have a new opinion, different artistic properties and the reflection of personal style.
