Abstract:

It cannot be claimed that we don’t have adequate knowledge about digital violence caused by the increase in the use of technological devices such as internet and mobile phone. At this point it is important to identify how people face up with digital violence and their perceptions and attitudes of digital violence. An analysis of digital violence on social media applications is aimed to be made in this paper. In this regard, a questionnaire was conducted to 206 students receiving education in Abant Izzet Baysal University Science and Literature Faculty. Initially, which social media applications are used by the students and whether they have ever experienced any kinds of harassment are analyzed. Besides, an open ended question whether they have experienced digital violence they have never forgotten in their lives was asked in the questionnaire. In the paper, some reactions given after aforesaid digital violence examples and the necessity to improve current implementations and laws are also given. Finally, it has been found out that male and female students, without any gender differences, have experienced some disturbing events in digital environment.
