Abstract:

Nazire mecmuas make a huge contribution for Turkish classical literature researches. Information about the use of aruz can be considered as one of these contributions.  Ömer bin Mezîd’s Mecmû‘atü’n-Nezâ’ir is draws more attention than other nazire mecmuas in terms of information it gives about aruz. In the introduction, a piece of poetry written about the name of his work was analyzed according to two different prosodies by Ömer bin Mezîd. He responded with rhythmical phrases with prosodies to provide a better understanding of these prosodies. Looking at these rhythmic phrases, which are a striking example of the relationship between aruz and music, it is also possible to make inferences about what other rhythmic words may correspond to some tef'iles and aruz prosodies. Moreover, in the mentioned work, the poems are divided into parts according to five different main prosodies. There are poetry pieces that tell the reader about the aruz prosodies that is used and aim to train the reader at the beginning of each part. These poems give clues about the old aruz teaching. In this study, Ömer bin Mezîd’s Mecmû‘atü’n-Nezâ’ir was dealt with in terms of his contribution to the aruz. Our work consists of an introduction part and three main parts. In the first part, the aruz prosody studies which Ömer bin Mezîd revealed at the introduction of Mecmu'atü'n-Nezâ'ir was first evaluated and then in the light of the rhythmic words used in this aruz prosody study, some other rhythmic words that might correspond to some of the aruz prosodies were argued . In the second part, the pieces of poetry given in order to introduce and teach the aruz prosodies in Mecmu'atü'n-Nezâ'ir have been evaluated. In the third part, these pieces of poetry were analyzed in detail by inspiration from the method of Ömer bin Mezîd. Thus, it is demonstrated with examples how to use the method of Ömer bin Mezîd in present-day aruz examinations.
