Abstract:

This study aims to determine if there are any significant differences in socio-emotional school adjustments of the students in the first grade of primary school in terms of several variables. In the study, teachers are asked to fill in two different forms. One of them is Marmara Socio-Emotional Adjustment Scale. And the other one is the Student Personal Information Form developed by the researcher in order to determine variables affecting socio-emotional adjustment levels of students to the school. The study data were gathered through the scales and forms filled by the teachers for 609 students in the first grade of primary school. Then, these data were analyzed in a computer by using SPSS 16.0 package program. In the study, all the statistical procedures were tested bidirectionally and significance level was accepted as .05. The findings of the study indicate no significant difference in the levels of socio-emotional adjustment of students to school in terms of gender. Social emotional adjustment level of students aging 66-72 months is found higher than that of students aging 60-66 months. Socio-emotional adjustment level of students attended pre-school education is discovered to be higher than that of students that didn’t attend pre-school education. Furthermore, it is revealed that socio-emotional adjustment levels of students from families with higher income are higher than that of students from families with lower income, and that the increasing levels of family income proved to have a positive impact on the socio-emotional adjustment levels of students
